The olive emerger is a generic hatching olive pattern, once the nymph decides to swim to the surface to hatch into an adult fly it is at its most vulnerable, trapped in the surface film of water as it struggles to break free from its carapace. Sipping rises are often the result of Trout mopping up the mass of flies just about to emerge.
